It seems it was only a matter of time before industry experts realized that extended drain intervals were the trend of the future. Norman Hudecki, formerly of Valvoline and long-time proponent of 3,000-mile drain intervals offers new insight on oil drain recommendations. In the January 2001 issue of Lubes N’ Greases magazine (an oil industry trade publication), Hudecki has this to say: “Oil drain intervals for passenger cars will be the big news. The auto industry’s greatest hope and concern today is looking for drain intervals in the 10,000- to 15,000-mile range, as part of the next oil upgrade for passenger cars. In order to get to drains of 10,000 miles or more, the oil is going to cost more money. The biggest hurdle will be volatility, and regular oils won’t cut it. Formulators probably will need to use a totally different base oil, possibly an all-PAO synthetic or Group III-type oil. Remember, we already have filled-for-life transmission fluids and coolants. Longer drain intervals for engine oils are next.” AMSOIL motor oil customers already know the value that extended drain intervals can offer. That’s because AMSOIL has been recommending extended drain intervals for over 30 years. |
